Billy shines in the sun at Down Royal Captains Day.
Saturday 30th May 2009 saw Colin Mulryne host Down Royals Captains Day in glorious sunny conditions which seen the members contest for £500`s worth of gift vouchers. Tee-off started at 7.30am and the Captain overseen every member tee-off before playing his round. The winner’s on the day were Billy Pearce, 1st place, with 42 points; Gordon Assink was just one point behind with 41 points to finish second. Last year’s club Captain Rod McMullan won 3rd place and 4th place was David Robinson. Nigel Aughey won the gross prize. Prizes were also up for grabs for the front 9 and back 9, which were won by D.Clydesdale and Ian Daniel respectively. A group of ladies also played as visitors on the day, and their prize was won by Danielle O’Neill.
After golf during the day, the Ballymac Hotel was the venue for the dinner, where the prize giving took place. The Captain thanked his committee for all the hard work they put in for the day and for the year so far. He also mentioned Bill McCapplin, the manager of the Down Royal Golf Course, and also all of the green keepers for the course being kept in such great condition, with thanks being extended to the bar and kitchen staff at the Down Royal Club house for all the wonderful work they put in each week.
This week’s competition sees the summer league resume for week 6 of the season.
